About Us
We believe that young players should enjoy the time spent training, and we train them with the motive of developing young talents with a strong foundation in basic sports
We also ensure they develop good interpersonal skills to communicate with others while encouraging academic excellence
Oncourt Sports International Badminton Academy was founded in 1999. At the Academy, professional badminton coaches are engaged to train and develop children and young adults at the Selayang Mall Badminton Centre, Kuala Lumpur. Over the years, more than 1,000 children have passed through Oncourt Sports International Badminton Academy.
The idea to start a professional badminton academy was first mooted by Ms. Shanta Vigneswaran, an ex-banker who noticed a deep interest and craving from her children to play badminton when they were eight years old. Together with her husband, Vigneswaran (Vicky) who works in a law firm, they embarked on this journey together. They both believe that sports and education is a must for all children.
A visionary, Vicky believed that his children should compete with the best, and both of them worked closely with their daughters developing them to compete at local levels. Becoming champions at numerous badminton tournaments in Malaysia, and recognising their potential, they thereafter encouraged them to participate at international levels.
Over the years, the Academy has developed numerous players who have become District, State and International players. This includes their daughters, Sashina Vignes and Teshana Vignes who have been representing France at numerous international tournaments. They are both pursuing their graduate studies at universities in France.
Sashina has won the Women’s Singles for the BWF Italian International Challenge, BWF Norwegian International Challenge, BWF Belgian International Challenge and the BWF Portugal International Series Tournaments and finishing on the podium for a number of other International Challenges.
Teshana has won the Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles for the BWF Lithuanian Future Series among other tournaments.
Ashwant Gobinathan, a past trainee with the Academy, now represents Australia and won the 2015 Australian Closed Singles title. He is pursuing his medical degree with the University of Melbourne.
Ng Cheng Wah, who was a trainee with the Academy since 2001 is now the present Head Coach of the Academy. He has completed his IT Degree.
Oncourt Sports is also affiliated with both local and international players, especially from Europe and conducts regular international players’ exchange programs for upcoming badminton players.
